Buryat to English

Sayan Zhamablov, Virlana Tkacz and Wanda Phipps have been translating Buryat Mongolian poetry, myths and shaman chants into English since 1996. Their translations of traditional and contemporary Buryat poetry has been integral to the original theatre pieces created by Yara. Their English translations of Buryat folk songs can be sung to the original music and have been performed in such places as the Poetry Project of St Mark's, the American Museum of Natural History and La MaMa Experimental Theatre. They are the recipients of three New York State Council on the Arts Translation Grants and the Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry Award.
